This historical basket is designed to look like a Native American pottery bowl. The frame of the basket is made with round rattan reed, and then 72 rattan “loops” are added. The frame and loops will be offered in a variety of contrasting colors. This is a very easy basket to make, and will be a beautiful and functional piece of basketry to display in your home! Students will participate in a discussion of weaving materials, base and base modification, up-setting the sides, alternative ways of weaving, shaping and loop insertion. This is a beginner level class, but all levels are welcome! Class Materials will be supplied by the Instructor. Participants are asked to bring: an old towel, pencil, cloth measuring tape, 12 clip clothespins, and if possible, garden sheers or sturdy scissors.
