The Best Picture Winners course will be a lively discussion of the films in this elite group from the 1st, Wings, to the 89th, Moonlight. What makes a film a Best Picture? Which of the winners have stood the test of time? How has film innovation changed the Academy? These are just a few of the questions that this course will explore over four weeks. Whether you are an ardent cinephile or a lover of Awards season this course will be an exploration into and an appreciation of Oscar’s Best Picture history.
Lauren Tocci is a high school English educator who started her career in 2008. Her passion for film and the Academy Awards started at a young age and continues to grow, and occupy most of her time each year. She received her M.A. from Kutztown University where her thesis work focused on found footage films. Lauren is a proud member of the Frank Banko Alehouse Cinema Committee.
