Aug. 3, 5:30-9 p.m.
Students meet at the Banana Factory Olympus Digital Imaging Center for a 60- to 90-minute classroom session beginning at 5:30 p.m.
This is a unique opportunity to go behind the scenes at Musikfest with Brian Hineline, who's photographed hundreds of concerts over the past 20 years for Rolling Stone, The New York Times, Time Magazine, Entertainment Weekly and other publications. Participants start off in our Olympus Digital Imaging Center learning tips and techniques from Brian about taking fabulous concert photographs. Then it’s on to the festival grounds to shoot at the free stages at Musikfest, including behind-the-scenes candids that the public doesn’t have access to. Capping it all off, you’ll work alongside Brian at Musikfest’s Sands Steel Stage media pit, photographing STYX for their first three songs (no flash)!
Please Note: Joan Jett and the Blackhearts are not part of this photography workshop experience.
All proceeds from this class benefit ArtsQuest’s Arts Education Fund, which helps to support the 500 free concerts at Musikfest and ArtsQuest’s educational programming for young people.
This workshop is geared towards intermediate and advanced amateurs. It includes one ticket to the night’s performance; additional tickets per student may be purchased by phone only at 610-332-3378 (Monday-Friday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.).
STYX and ArtsQuest both require photographers to sign a photo release form prohibiting the use of photos for any commercial purposes. Photographers retain the rights to their images and may post them online and in portfolios.
Equipment Needed: The use of flash is not permitted. For close-up shots of the performer, we recommend a telephoto lens of 70-200 mm. Because there will be stage lighting only, a lens with a fixed 2.8 aperture is ideal.
