The heart and soul of Bethlehem Steel, The Hoover Mason Trestle, is the closest you can get to the crucible of iron and steel making in America. Bethlehem Steel Corporation was a pioneer in steel production. Steel produced by Bethlehem Steel was used in the construction of some of American's greatest landmarks -- Golden Gate Bridge, George Washington Bridge, and the Chrysler Building in New York City. Additionally, structural members of the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, and the Hoover Dam, were made by Bethlehem Steel. While similar to the Highline in NYC, the Hoover Mason Trestle stands apart because it offers the only view into the American iron and steel industry, with platforms built at key vantage points that illustrate the magnitude of 100-ton fly wheels, huge ore cars and immense blast furnaces. While the furnaces sit idle today, the site has been reclaimed and visitors enjoy fabulous vistas of South Bethlehem, South Mountain, and St. Michael’s Cemetery which was captured in the famous photograph by Walker Evans in the 1930’s.

"Embark on the weirdest - and funniest - journey you'll ever experience."
- Lehigh Valley Style

"A great date night idea"- Lehigh Valley With Love

"I literally laughed the entire time." - Brie Friedman, FigBethlehem.com

ManDudeBro is the improvisational comedy team of Matt Candio, Jon Lunger, Dan Maher and Evan Stutts. Based in the Lehigh Valley region of Pennsylvania, the group has been delighting audiences with longform improv comedy since 2012. Each of their shows is completely improvised - never having been seen before and never to be seen again. Inspired by the show's audience, ManDudeBro weaves in and out of a hilarious made-up world, filled with over-the-top characters and situations, creating a riotous theatrical experience.

They've been official selections of the District Improv Festival (Washington, DC), The NYC Improv Festival (New York, NY), Unscripted New York (New York, NY), the SteelStacks Improv Comedy Festival (Bethlehem, PA) and The Allentown Freak Out Festival (Allentown, PA). ManDudeBro has trained extensively at the Upright Citizen's Brigade in NYC and with Amey Goerlich of the legendary improv team Krompf.

So, in closing, ManDudeBro would like you to know that if you come to their show, they will teach you how to love again, through comedy.

On March 24th, Morgan Miller will be joining ManDudeBro after her show!

The Rocky Horror Picture Show

**All screenings include performances from the One from the Vaults & Sweet Translucent Dreams shadowcasts, and contain strong adult material!**

This low-budget freak show/cult classic/cultural institution concerns the misadventures of Brad Majors (Bostwick) and Janet Weiss (Sarandon) inside a strange mansion that they come across on a rainy night. The owner of this house is a transvestite clad in lingerie, Dr. Frank N. Furter (Curry), a mad scientist who claims to be from another planet.

But seriously, do you need a description? It’s ROCKY HORROR! THE cult classic... there is no other film quite like Rocky Horror and there never will be. This timeless film is best screened late and we’re more than happy to bring this tradition back to the Lehigh Valley every last Friday of the month, with extra screenings every October!

Costumes are encouraged, and so are props, with a BIG exception: squirt guns or water props are not allowed.

Check out this page for more helpful advicewww.rockyhorror.com/participation/etiquette.

This class will help you learn how film cameras work, the types of cameras, lenses, and their applications. The medium of silver-based black & white (B/W) photography will be explored as an art form, and students will discuss the aesthetics of different film types and darkroom technics. Wool Beads
Sunday, 10/1
1:00 - 5:00 PM
1 Day
Price $60 | ArtsQuest Member Price $54

In this one day workshop, we will use wet felting to create two different types of wool beads. Wet felting is a process where wool, warm water, soap, and agitation are combined to create felt. We will produce basic round beads as well as sushi style beads. These beads can later be strung to create beautiful soft jewelry or be used as embellishments. Students will use wet felting to create round and sushi style beads. We will start class with an overview of felting, types of wool, and basic process. Then, students will choose a few colors and be shown the process of creating round beads. Once they have created a few round beads, they will then layer fiber to create a cross bat and saturate it with warm, soapy water. Next, they will tightly roll up their bat and felt it as a roll. Finally, the sushi-style beads will be cut and laid out to air dry.

Using a range of materials such as slips, underglazes, and glazes, students will learn how to develop unique surfaces based on their personal aesthetics. More experienced students will have the opportunity to experiment with mixed media projects that include non-ceramic materials such as paint, fibers, and glass. In this focused class, aspiring game designers will learn to write their own code and learn how to create custom tweens, gradient graphics, and more Actionscript code. Students leave with a few movies and working games; but, more importantly, an understanding of what is involved in planning and creating a video game and more advanced concepts of programming. Students should bring their own flash drives, notebooks, and pencils to class. Open to ages 10-12. Prerequisite: Beginner Computer Animation and Video Game Design

Paint and draw in a looser and more expressionistic contemporary manner. Refine your painting skills to create a lively surface which will be considered a playground for intuitive creativity, technique and skill. Expert instruction and advice will push students to explore new possibilities and work more intuitively, allowing unplanned marks and passages to become artistic breakthroughs. Examples from contemporary and modern art will be examined to promote a broader understanding of the abstract qualities of space, line and color. All levels are welcome, and a supply list will be provided for registered students. “The main goal of this workshop is to encourage you to step outside of your comfort zone. The expectation should be to give yourself the opportunity to learn something new and have some fun. The focus will be on technique and process. You will learn expressive painting techniques for the modern painter. Establish pictorial unity through visual metaphor, multiple focal points, space and color. How to use warm and cool and dark and light contrast. Explore the power of using “active” and “quiet” areas. Dive in a territory where accident, recklessness are opportunities.” –Kassem Amoudi

Students create glass designs through the process of burning away organic materials. Leaves and other parts of plants are used as a template to deposit powdered glass onto larger pieces of flat glass. The organic material is fired with the glass to about 1400 degrees Fahrenheit, burning away the organic material, leaving behind a realistic impression of the plant material in 100% glass. Students are encouraged to bring plant materials to work with, evergreen foliage and small branches work well. No experience necessary.

The Large Flowerheads have opened for Peter Noone & Herman's Hermits, The 5th Dimension, The Guess Who, The Tubes, The Dan Band, and The Vogues. At Wildwood’s Sensational ‘60s Weekend, they warmed up the crowd for The Grass Roots, Gary Puckett & the Union Gap, and Paul Revere & the Raiders.

Notable stages played include the Musikfest Café in Bethlehem PA, Penn’s Peak in Jim Thorpe PA, Sellersville Theater in Sellersville PA, Hollywood Casino in Hershey PA, Bayonne Summer Concert Series in Bayonne NJ, and TD Bank Amphitheater in Bensalem PA. They can also be seen performing at fairs, festival and summer concert series throughout the region, including Musikfest.

Named after a carton of artificial flowers spotted in a warehouse rehearsal space, The Large Flowerheads consist of Maureen “Moe” Jerant on drums and guitar, Greg Geist on rhythm guitar and drums, Billy Trexler on lead guitar and electric sitar, John Harkins on keyboards & bass and Colleen Zajacik on bass guitar & percussion. Their home is the Lehigh Valley, PA.

Jimmy & The Parrots: Holiday Parrot Party

Grab your beach chair, your suntan oil, and your favorite drink, and get ready for a trip to the islands with the ultimate tribute to Jimmy Buffett. For more than 12 years, Jimmy and the Parrots have been playing to delighted crowds all over the United States as well as the Caribbean.

The band's name was coined by Steve Tarkanish of STARS Productions, who was also instrumental in introducing Hal B. Selzer and Lance Hyland Stark to band leader Jimmy Maraventano in 2002, and the band really took off! Jimmy and the Parrots has been a featured act at the annual Meeting of the Minds Parrot Head conventions in Key West, Florida, for over 12 years.. Their Key West performances also included well-known venues such as the Rick’s Café, Sloppy Joe’s, Pat Croce’s Rum Barrel, Schooner Wharf, and Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville.

In January, 2005, over 80 fans traveled to Jamaica with the band for the first-ever “Yea Mon Tour” which included performances at Beaches Boscobel Resort as well as Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville in Ocho Rios. In February 2010, over 100 fans joined the band on their first-ever “Yeamon Cruise” which included performances on board the Carnival Pride as well as at Senor Frog’s in Nassau, Bahamas. In July 2010, the band was part of the National Flagship Celebration for the SS United States, and plans call for Jimmy Maraventano’s song about the ship—“Symbol of America” – to be included in the upcoming updated documentary “Lady in Waiting.” In April 2011, they performed several times at the Atlantis Resort in Paradise Island, Bahamas.

The band has two CDs of original tunes, “Better Than New” and “Back to the Bayou.” In addition, they released (nationwide) a 30-song, three-CD set entitled “Island Jam,” which has sold over 100,000 units to date. A second three-CD set entitled “Sun Jams,” was released as a follow up to “Island Jam” which includes guest appearances by Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band member Doyle Grisham, the legendary Gary US Bonds, and other well-know trop-rock musicians.

In March 2012, we once again set sail on Yeamon Cruise 2012 with over 100 fans joining the band on the Carnival Freedom where the band performed on board as well as at the Smokin’ Tuna Saloon in Key West, FL. In November of that same year, the band was named "Entertainer of the Year" at the Trop Rock Music Awards held in Key West, FL, and honor which was repeated in November of 2014. Also in 2014, the band once again took over the high seas for "Yeamon Fun Cruise". The band performed on board the Carnival Splendor as well as in port at Jimmy Buffett's Margaritaville in Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos. The band also traveled to the Four Seasons in Nevis, West Indies, in 2014 to perform for a corporate event.

The Amish Outlaws

It is a little-known fact that most Amish practice a tradition, similar to the Christian "Confirmation" and Jewish "Bar Mitzvah," called "Rumspringa" (literal translation: "running around") in which Amish children at the age of 16 have an opportunity to live free of the strict Amish code of conduct before deciding if they want to come back and be baptized into the Amish church. Surprisingly, virtually all of the youths return.

But sometimes they don't.

Four out of the original six of the members of The Amish Outlaws were born and raised in Lancaster, PA and had a strict Amish upbringing. No electricity from land lines, no alcohol, no musical instruments, but their spirits were too wild for the Amish lifestyle. Once they trampled in the Devil's Playground, there was no turning back. In the years since Rumspringa, the members of the Amish Outlaws have become very well acclimated to the pleasures and vices of the modern world... music, most of all.

It was this mutual love of music that brought the Outlaws together in a chance meeting at the 2002 Pocono Vacation Park "Rock and Roll Hootenanny." While their appearance drew snickers and stares from most of the crowd, they sat down together and the Brothers were soon like brothers, sharing not only the bond of having left the Amish life behind, but also the deep mutual love of music. Together they delved deeply into the 16 years of American culture they missed, watching endless hours of classic MTV, listening to the radio, CDs, records, tapes... anything they could get their hands on. But just listening and watching was not enough... the Brothers soon decided to form a band that combined their love of the modern world and their traditional upbringing. They met some non-Amish friends out in the world ("English" as we call the non-Amish), making them "honorary Amish" when they joined the band. Thus, with a bold lust for life and a fire for music and performance that can only come from 16 years of repression, The Amish Outlaws were unleashed upon the world.

There is no "typical" Amish Outlaws show, but the average crowd can expect to see men in full Amish garb releasing all of their pent up energy with an infectious joy. With a set that is always evolving as the Brothers discover more and more music and culture, The Amish Outlaws constantly surprise the audience and keep them guessing as to what they could possibly play next, from Johnny Cash to Jay Z, Lady Gaga to Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre, Bon Jovi to Elvis Presley, The Foo Fighters to Dropkick Murphys, to theme songs from the TV shows they have come to know. Throughout, The Outlaws spin yarns about the Brothers' upbringing and adventures since Rumpsringa. Amish Outlaw gigs are less performances than they are initiations into the life of an Amish Outlaw and parties celebrating the Brothers' newfound freedom.
